Re: The video game thread
the nether is now working really well, i tested it last night by cheating the necessary cool things. (i then threw them in lava).
the mod forces the chunks with nether portals on them to never unload so you should get smooth teleporting (i got about a second of falling before being plonked in the nether and vice versa) but it could make the server laggier depending on how many nether portals we have, we'll just have to see how it works.
you can also ride minecarts through nether portals, in theory you could get away with only using 1/8th of the amount of tracks you would otherwise have to have made if you travel through hell. i won't be doing this for my spawn to home tracks but it may be viable if we map out tracks to that far off desert through the nether, then we can all enjoy sand and glass at our leisure.
any other ideas?

Re: The video game thread
netherrack, the rock that burns forever if ignited, slowsand, that causes anything walking over it to slow and sink into it and glowstone, which is a block that illuminates.

Re: The video game thread
I'll try that later. I'll set one up at the main spawn if you like. So then we've got one main portal.

i'll update when we're online
edit: the backend is back up, but I still can't connect to our server

Re: The video game thread
we're up and i've added a couple of new mods.
one allows me to admin the server from my phone, but it has to be running for me to do that so i can't really fix owt thats broken but i can do quite a bit of cool stuff.
The other is a slowheal mod like we used to have, it heals you half a heart every 2 minutes but only if you're above sea level. I'd be willing to lower it a few blocks if someone has a subterranean home, but it's just about keeping mines and dungeons a dangerous place to be.

Re: The video game thread
It seems like someone placed them as markers to find their way home. All I know is that they aren't mine.
My rainbow music bridge is complete but it isn't that spectacular. Redstone circuitry isn't very discrete so the bridge looks a bit gash from underneath. By all means, though, take a look at my digs.

Re: The video game thread
It would be really good if Lee did something like that with his bridge.
I've only just gone and seen a slime. I thought they removed them from the game. Here's proof:
Damn photobucket making the images tiny.

Re: The video game thread
When you next update the map I'll copy it and annotate where I am and the locations of where I know other people are. It might help when setting up a rail network too.
