I don't get why there's so much hate for Vista. I hardly ever have any problems with it. In fact the last time mah computer died was when I tried installing Ubuntu and it committed suicide. For no reason.

Re: The video game thread
I converted an old machine to Ubuntu. It's fine for some things but if you want to use any kind of mainstream software you're screwed. Sure, there's WINE, but that's just another little pain in the arse.
I've just tried that Brain Training thing on the DS, stupid thing wouldn't recognize my writing or my voice so I have an age of 80. I'm actually pretty smart.

and write in a japanese accent
in other news, windows 7 is alot better than vista, it boots and operates much faster.
parg, if you don't know of anything wrong with vista, try moving files between 2 pcs, it takes over twice as long to transfer files than it does in pretty much any other OS
Windows XP has roughly the same as ubuntu in this one.
It was announced as a bug as soon as the first vista beta was out and had never been fixed.

And try creating a network with them. It doesn't like that very much.
Oh and there's:
"Do you want to open this application?"
-Yes
"Really?"
-Yes
"Are you sure you want to open this application?"
-Yes
"Ha, well you can't! You aren't an administrator."

Re: The video game thread
an option that is a single click to enable but is a registry hack to disable.
I accidentally clicked the option and it completely forgoed the usual click apply or okay and immediately removed the toggle option.

Re: The video game thread
Well I have a shared folder between my computer (Vista) and my dads (XP Media Centre) and it works fine and dandy. That's about all I do though so I'm not sure about anything else.

Re: The video game thread
Is that through a router or direct? To get my multi-OS PCs networked through my router I had to create usernames and passwords that were identical on each computer. A bit of a ball-ache but it worked eventually after much googling.
My Vista PC isn't recognized as a media server by my PS3. I think that's a problem with both systems though to be honest.

Router. The only problem I've had with networking is getting the printer attached to the other PC to show up here. It never does.

Eh that game isn't that great. The little Popeye type thing in the top right corner annoyed me.

Re: The video game thread
I have ubuntu. great os but not the fastest as its aimed to be a easy transition to linux i guess so has a bit of bloat. It has some good alternatives to programs but nothing beats industry standard. Adobe are actually releasing software for ubuntu now.
Vista and Xp arent the same at all. Xp is registry based where vista isnt. Vista was a rewrite from scratch. sure it had xp features but its not xp. Vista isnt bad anymore. The problem when someone releases a new OS from scratch is driver compatibility. Vista lacked drivers for the first year of its existance. but now with all the updates its a great OS. Windows 7 is Vista rebranded and improved. much like xp is a rebranded windows 2000. (everyone hated 200 for its first year much like vista). Windows 7 looks to be great so far and has backwards compatability for vista devices. if you look at the timeline of windows based OS you can see what is rebrnded and whats a new os from the version number.Microsoft allways release like this so they can work out the bugs in their os then release a new one bug free.
sorry for the long ass post:D but on gaming i play a free fast pased fps called urbanterror. its kinda like parkour meets quake3

Re: The video game thread
Does anyone play WoW? My workmate does and it's ruined his life. Honestly, I asked him what he was doing this Thursday and he had to check to see if he wasn't having an epic battle with the Dwarves or some shiz.
