I was looking through some of the records at Rebellion and came across this:

    I bought vinyl on a whim... 3463952386_bb104eaf46

I only bought it because of the cover and I've just had a quick listen. I was expecting some shitty post-punk bullshit but it was actually fairly decent classic punk.

Have you ever bought a record or CD that you had no idea about and it turned out to be good? Or did it turn out to be terrible?

Is Culture Shock in any way related to Kultur Shock?

I don't really buy CDs of bands I haven't listened to but I remember buying a split of Janitors Against Apartheid and One Eye Open. It wasn't that wonderful.

i bought good mourning by alkaline trio on a blind recommendation from a friend. never heard of them before let alone heard a track by them and immediately fell in love and they've been my favourite band ever since, according to my last.fm stats i've listened to them nearly 10 times more then the 2nd most played band on my itunes

I was looking at the cover for that record and thinking, "All the major characters from Star Trek are there except Scotty. Where is he?" Then I realized that he was operating the teleporter of course."

I've bought plenty CDs of bands that i've never heard, but heard good things about. But with mixed results.

Westbound Train is a good example, picked it up cos it was cheap after having heard the name. Bloody good album Transitions.

Against All Authority was a bad one. All Fall Down is one of the worst skacore albums i've heard to date.

My best random purchase has been Neutral Milk Hotel, picked up the album after hearing really good things about them and it's turned into one of my favourite CDs. It's probably best described as folk-indie-rock, but in the classic sense, not in the Arctic Fucking Monkeys sense. Lyrically it's amazing, but does take a little while to get into.

Been buying lots of 10p vinyl from charity shops recently, all based just on covers.. its interesting what ya bag when you're trying to liven up boring rented house walls.

Highlights so far include: Bowie, Madness, Mary Poppins, and 'Bridget the Midget with special guests Pinky & Perky'

    Cool
