I've decided that for now, I'm not going to give my units extended move orders so I actually get to do something when it's my turn. It will all change soon though.

Re: Civ 4 Civ 4
i never thought of that, i always send workers off on auto, i'm going to not do any auto-shit, manual explore and all. might as well since i get a turn every blue moon
oh and it doesn't matter in civ, but heading north or south to explore and spread is a bad idea, clever people head east/west (not a game tipp or owt, just something in teresting i read) it's all about taking and harvesting your crops, they don't work as well in different temperature climates. east and west and you can expand to fuck and your same crops will go. it's apparently one big reason why africa has never been a political superpower

I have no idea what you're talking about. Do you have a link or anything to where you read it?

Re: Civ 4 Civ 4
sorry, i'll try to explain better (cos i don't have a link)
expand north or south and you'll find it getting hotter or colder because of the shape of the earth (i'm sure you know that). when expanding, they would take seeds for whatever food they harvested so that when they got there they could get a few fields on the go for some good eatings, these plants naturally grow in the area you started in because that's the best conditions for them. they won't be as good where you move to, too hot/cold too humid/dry etc but they'll be okay, still enough to go around. Expand again and it's a bit worse, bit worse, bit worse until you can't really sustain your newly founded village.
heading east or west doesn't have this same limitation (or rather the changes are much more slight) meaning civilizations that had to expand north (ie africa) weren't as successful at expanding as europe.

Re: Civ 4 Civ 4
Oh so we aren't actually talking about doing this in Civ 4? Or is that some sort of mechanic that I didn't know about?

Re: Civ 4 Civ 4
Yeah, not to sure if its a tactic that'd work so well on civ, Or maybe it would, but i think i'd rather the grassy plains in the north than building over desert, where my city just wont grow.... and there are plenty of grass up there, good old scouty boy!.. i found a coffee supply to!

Re: Civ 4 Civ 4
yeah, i did try to make it clear that this isn't a civ tactic as much as a real life thing, i was just spreading a bit of fun knowledge, as fas as i'm aware there isn't anything like this built into civ but out of habit i always try to spread east/west, don't know why
oh and, i've got the save, i'll send it on to you this evening, feltch

Re: Civ 4 Civ 4
Just got my turn, but I've installed Civ 4 complete so I have Warlords and Beyond the Sword too. I think I'll have to patch it before I get the save to work.

Re: Civ 4 Civ 4
Right, my copies of Civ 4 are totally shagged. I've un-installed and re-installed both Civ 4 and Civ 4 Complete seperately and neither will work with this save file.
Fletchedit: I stopped being a noob and managed to fix it. I spend the best half of two hours sorting it and then I timed how long it took to take my turn - 5 seconds! Bob's turn.

Re: Civ 4 Civ 4
assuming we keep up a turn a day, we'll be alright. there'll likely be more to do the longer the game goes on for a start
