UK Ska Punk compilation Empty UK Ska Punk compilation

Post by Summers Sat Aug 22, 2009 5:00 pm

Right, so, i know it's been talked about a bit around these parts, but i've decided i'd really like to sort out a proper, lovely, decent UK ska/punk compilation. I'm basically going to be handpicking the majority of the bands for it, but this message is basically a heads up if you're in a band that would be interested in being on it, or would like to recomend a band.

That's essentially all the details i have for now Smile I'm planning on about 15-20 bands, and getting it nicely pressed and everything, and i'll update this thread as and when i sort things out. It's not necesarily going to be under the Ska Mutiny banner, but we'll see how it turns out.

The Community Records compilations have loads of good stuff on em, they're cheap and they look fuckin ace. Something like that for UK bands would be lovely, I'd definitely pick one up if it was the same kinda price.

It'd definitely be as cheap as chips, definitely no more than £3 for 15-20 tracks all nicely pressed Smile

Is it gonna be like a ska only version of the compunktion compinations that I used to get in HMV? Like one you're gonna be pushing to get known?

Honestly my aspirations are just to get it out and about the 'scene' rather than pushing for it to be in HMV and the like. See where we go from there! Anyone interested i'll check your myspace out, i'm totally not guaranteeing anything unless i really, really like you though! There's very few spaces left that i haven't already allocated.

but before I was involved in "the scene" I saw [spunge] on TV and that made me buy the compunktion vol.2 from HMV and check out all the other great bands that were on that CD at the time! It's how I discovered No Comply.

    fair enough...

its hard work getting distro for something like this though. especially for a first edition. Keeping it in the scene probably makes more sense as people in the scene will wana hear these bands... and obviously everyone in the scene is way too cool for myspace.

a cd of all your favourite myspace bands sounds wicked, chuck it on in the van on the way to a gig... learn the words to the other bands songs and quote them at the band all night long.

One thing to consider might be adding a quid onto the price and doing that extra quid per CD sold as a benefit for something...hey I'm just saying...

Good idea, Dan. There's plenty of music related youth charities out there. I'm sure if you decided on that then the selected charity would be happy to get the word out about this CD in their newsletters or flyers or whatever.

Of course, it wouldn't have to be a music related charity. It could be anything.

My arguement is that in 'the scene' people already have a pretty big chance of knowing who a lot of the bands are already, and if they don't it just makes people in the scene a little more knowledgable and network better. If you got a couple of big name bands like Sonic Boom Six and Random Hand and sold it in HMV/wherever then it may well bring more people to 'the scene'. Code7 who distrobute all of Rebel Alliance Recording's releases distrobute to hmv.

You could still sell it to people in 'the scene' as well, and if SB6 and RH are on it then maybe they'd sell some at their shows, who knows?

it's not as if distribution is free though is it?

Even if Summers wanted to put this in HMV etc, it's gonna cost a hell of a lot for him to get it there!

Plus it defeats the entire object of producing an affordable promotional CD when HMV's price tag is likely to be around 7-8quid minimum.

Actually that's true I didn't think of that, didn't think of how much more it would have to be priced at.
