no parking - dim parcio.
sound familiar?
Welsh language radio/tv is pretty entertaining, as every 4th word is english, and as they say it you can just hear them dying a little inside.

Nope, no idea. Welsh is a lot closer to Cornish, I can usually pick out a few words in Cornish, but I have no idea what that sentance means at all. Well I do now because I just googled it haha.
English has some words derived from Welsh as well, discoboy.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUUU
my point was just that reel big moose said that english wasn't a real language because it is just derived from earlier languages. i was pointing out how silly that was.
i don't get how car is of welsh origin if we got it from latin though
cornish wins though, bludgeon is an awesome word

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUUU
yes but english is a complete amagalmation based almost entirely on outside influences, welsh just has a few more modern words it borrows. the fact remains, teh roots of english are in italy and germany, the roots of welsh are in wales.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUUU
Welsh is shit though to be fair.
Mostly it's modern words that it borrows from english
1) >99% of welsh people speak english already,
2) why have two words for the same thing

There's a few up in the hills. I was in Anglesea a few years back and the locals spoke Welsh in conversation. I'm sure they were doing it so we didn't know what they were saying about us.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUUU
They hate the south welsh more than the hate the English. They spoke english too of course. I was in the shop at the time and it was the shopkeeper talking to someone else in welsh.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUUU
A lot of people speak gaelic in general conversation in the islands too. It's not too bad in the main towns but some of the wee villages out in the wilderness really don't speak English and, I dunno about welsh, but you can sit say your history exam in Gaelic rather than English. All the road signs are Gaelic and there are more Gaelic church services than English ones. They do the airplane take off speech in Gaelic too!

as very little about welsh i know, i know you're bullshitting. its all based on old british, before the vikings. when they took over from the east coast, the english fled west, hence welsh and cornish.

You know it's not the same text though - it's actually a short prayer asking that should the plane crash, it crashes into bastard England.
