I've been making my business cards today, and I actually did spell my name wrong, took me about an hour until I noticed! Thank god I didn't print them, that would have been silly.

    At least somebody got it.

I'm not getting a skamutiny T-shirt. I don't really like the design. I'm always having to buy laptop chargers too because my rats chew them all!

    ted talks are always interesting.
i got on to that one from a talk by Richard Dawkins on militant atheism, it was a good talk on its own. I perticularily like the argument that since voters always vote for the christian candidates, specifically singling out atheists, and that atheists in the USA have on average considerably higher IQs, the system is keeping people who are both smart and honest out.

no, of course not. an atheist can be elected only if he lies about his beliefs.

am i missing something or was the 'honest' misread as god-bashing?

Well, it wasn't aimed at you, more at Richard Dawkins, who is an annoying bell. I'm not quite sure what you/he means by 'honest', surely all the candidates are being honest about their beliefs?

well, an atheist could still stand a chance of being elected if he lied and said he was a christian (as i'm sure some do), but it is dishonest of them to lie.

i'm not really a dawkins fan and watched the ted talk expecting to disagree with him but he isn't really arguing about religion in this as much as he argues that the most highly educated and least orthodox thinkers are being sidelined in favour of 'what the people want to hear'. He paints a pretty bleak picture of the education system in the USA
    Spoiler:
but his main comparisons are to how he was accepted as a man of science back in the UK.

Give it a watch, it's certainly worth your time.

US education does seem pretty politicised (look at what's happening with the Texas curriculum).
I do think it would be quite difficult for a non-christian to be elected in the US (for now at least). Athiests would get the most resistance compared to Jew or Mormons (according to Gallup) but the number does seem to be slowly rising (except from 1999 to 2007).

Also, I got my provisional driving licence today! The roads are a lot more dangerous now!

You are aware that the actual practical test is the opposite to Grand Theft Auto and you get minus points for runninh people over? I think it's like a three life system nowadays. You'll be ok if you just hit two people.
