THANKYOU!!!MidlandsDan wrote:Here are 10 British films well worth a look.
Dead Man's Shoes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vAk3Og3HLA
all the way though reading this thread I was trying to remember the name of that movie cos I wanted to redcomend it , I caught it semi-accidently on film 4. utterly amazing film.
This is england is immense and powerful enough ahs already been said about that.
Also love brassed off on the topic of british films, makes me cry everytime i watch it though for very personal reasons. Also slightly relevant here as its about msuic and im sure im not the only northern ska head that was in a brass band when younger surely.
in terms of american films. Anything kevin smith does, most tarantino films and joel shumacher films.
smaller films 'swimming with sahrks' awesome film, kevin spacey aws ever is brilliant.
Serenity ftw sci fi wise. great show and film for so many reasons. the film star wars would be if the hype was accurate.
erm love silence of the lambs, con air, usual suspects, ordinary decent criminal, anything kevin spacey has been in.
lots of great films, sadly i know not enough as i spend most my time musicly related.

Eternal Sunshine is a really good film, and I honestly really like Jim Carrey in his slightly more serious roles. (see the Number 23, great film) but The Butterfly Effect I think gets caught up more in the science-fiction of it all and ends up tripping over itself rather than achieving the thought-provoking status it seems to be looking for. It's certainly worth a watch though.
When it comes to those films that blur the edges between fantasy and reality, I really like Amelie and The Science of Sleep. Both foreign language films, but translate well because they're big on the visual aspects.
One of my recent favourite films is Garden State, written by and starring Zach Braff (Scrubs). It's a really awesome feel-good film. And stars the amazing Natalie Portman, who I promise you'll have fallen in love with by the end of the film.
Latest film I watched was One Hour Photo for the second time. It's got Robin Williams as a creepy photo developing guy at a supermarket who becomes a bit too interested in a family whose photos he develops. It's a good film, with some pretty good ideas, but it stops short of venturing into some of them, which kinda lets it down. It's only just over 90 minutes long and feels like it stops before it's really got going.

I've heard of it. From the things I've seen he does a near-perfect adaptation of that guy who was in Taxi, Andy Kaufman.

Re: The film thread
Yeah it's about the life of kaufman. The humor and sometimes sick commedy aspect of Andy kaufmans life is brilliant. I personally think alot of it is genius and i wish i knew more about Kaufman before he 'died'.
They also managed to get the whole cast of taxi to briefly appear in the film. And the ending is brilliant

long answer: i was saying over the weekend that the whole vote up-vote down thing was made for you. you feel justified dishing out arbitrary punishments, thanks for proving my point.

Re: The film thread
I've just read a little bit into Kaufman's life on wikipedia. I've just added Man on the Moon to my Lovefilm rental list. I've got to watch a whole series of Rome before I get anything else though.
