I surely hope not. They should stick to their science fiction and let us stick to ours, producing such staples as Dr Who and Quatermass.
    And H.G. Wells.
    And 1984.
    And Brave New World.
    And Day of the Triffids.
And of Course the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Can you tell that I like science fiction? Smile

Well Red Dwarf is slightly different as it's more of a sitcom in a science fiction setting, rather than all about the sci-fi.

    I disagree. I think Hitchhiker's is a sci-fi with comedic overtones.

Oh ok. I forgot about Red Dwarf, alright. I'm so ashamed. Leave me be.

it's a humorous sci-fi book, it takes it's sci-fi seriously, you can't really say that of red dwarf

still, you haven't acknowledged how wrong you were about missing out captain scarlett

i fail to see how it takes its sci fi any more seriously thean red dwarf tbh, with an improbability drive and a robot with depression.

Douglas Adams wrote:My pet project was to write something that would combine comedy and science fiction, and it was this obsession that drove me to debt and despair. No one was interested, except finally one man: a BBC radio producer named Simon Brett who had the same idea, comedy and science fiction. Although Simon only produced the first episode before leaving the BBC to concentrate on his own writing (he is the author of the Charles Paris detective novels), I owe him an immense debt of gratitude for simply getting the thing to happen in the first place. He was succeeded by the legendary Geoffrey.

So guess we are both right, but I still hold a strong belief that Hitchhikers takes science fiction way more seriously than Red Dwarf.

the difference being that hitchhikers guide tries to explain itself more, it holds better reason and logic than red dwarf. i don't mind you saying season 7 of red dwarf is funny, wrong though you are Wink but calling it good sci-fi is just depressing.

my theory here is that you're defending it just because it's something you really love and it's coming under crticism, whether it needs it or not, in which case I insist that Alien is scarier sci-fi than red dwarf (lets see you argue this one) Razz

the main problem i had with alien actually is that i saw the red dwarf polymorph smeg ups first. so all through alien every time it attacked all i could see was a man with a sucker on a stick lol.

    alien is an amazing film.
