...but I heard a song of his on the radio on Boxing Day and it was absolutely amazing. It had a great Desmond Dekker feel to it as far as I can remember. I think the song may be called "10-10" on his album Sunny Side Up. I haven't heard the rest of the album but if that song is anything to go by it's definitely worth a listen.

If anyone has any definite facts as to what the song is actually called then please post the name/a link up for the whole community to appreciate.

Paolo Nutini is great, and Sunny Side Up is a fantastic album. It's got a nice reggae feel to it in a lot of places. It's still very much a "pop" album, but with plenty influences from soul, jazz, ska, reggae and much more in between.

The song you've heard is called "10/10", and i'll also recommend you look up "Pencil Full of Lead". Absolute corkers.

Even better, go out and buy the album. It'll be damn cheap in the January sales I would imagine. It's one of the top 10 biggest selling album of 09 apparently.

I'm still waiting for this to turn up. God damn snow stopping aeroplanes! I heard another of his on the radio yesterday. Something about candy. Nowhere near as good as 10/10.

Haha, It's only 8000 miles to the nearest HMV. It arrived on Saturday though and I've had a few listens. It's the most mainstream album I've bought in at least 8 years. 10/10 is by far my favourite. I'd love it if he did more songs like that.

    It's a good album though, don'chathink?
I like the upbeat tracks as well as well as some of the more laid-back tunes. Coming Up Easy is a great one, and the baseline in High Hopes is ace.

Completely forgot to mention before, but Rico Rodriguez features on this album too, playing trombone on 10/10 I think it is.

In another trivia note, Tom Pinder and Gavin Fitzjohn from Adequate Seven have also begun playing in Paolo Nutini's backing band, and appeared on Later With Jools Holland.

It is good yeah. Not every song on the album sticks with me but there definitely are some gems in there. It's good that he has experimented with different musical styles. It has made it a pain in the arse trying to add it to my musical collection. What genre should I class it as?

How can you categorise your CD collection by genre?
There's so much crossover with so many bands I just don't see how that works.
If you're organising it, just do them alphabetically.

This album is "pop" in the basic sense of it being "popular" (it's the biggest selling album by a British male artist of '09) but it doesn't really follow the generic "pop" formula. I think it's closer to jazz and soul styles.

I organize my CD collection alphabetically, of course, but I like to have my mp3 tags accurate.
