    Roadtrippin' Music Empty Roadtrippin' Music

    Post by ba-ba Mon Aug 31, 2009 11:32 pm

right, later this week I'm driving from Sheffield to Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands for playing in mountains for a week. Only problem is I'm gonna be driving for 7+ hours (unless I fancy getting snapped by the fuzz) and some of the people I'm driving up seem to be a bit of a banter-free zone. So music is going to be key.
Already got a few sensible options planned (Gogol, Stone Roses/Oasis/James, Madness live@MEN, Frank Turner, IrishPunk etc.) But I also want to throw in some 'curve-ball' selections which'll hopefully provide a bit of banter.
Guessing that many people here have experience of banter songs when touring Razz
    So far I've got:
    Thrash/Speed metal hour (or 3)
    Meat Loaf Hour
    Rave Hour (inc. SCOOOOTER!)
    The Lonely Island hour

any suggestions for stuff I can try and get before next sunday to make the miles fly byyy? Razz

Bob the builder played backwards on repeat for an hour.

If that doesn't spark some discussion, there is something wrong with your road tripping buddies.

    Blood Or Whiskeys debut album.

The Aggrolites are the best band in the world, so The Aggrolites.

Focus on the road, drive safely.

Make sure you've got some good sing a longs once in a while to make sure everyone is still alive and keeping to keep you awake!

I remember a few years back for my friends 18th we went to Portsmouth and it took hours to drive down, and her fucking boyfriend at the time (who was driving) played really shitty trance music the whole way, me and another mate were in the back seats and decided to listen to our iPods, only for him to notice and turn the music up more! I could have killed myself right then, bastard.

Listen to Midlands Dan, kids. Stay safe.

I like the idea of Meatloaf hour. With the length of his songs you'll get about 5 of them in.

As for the dance section. There's a good CD called Floorfillers Club Classics. It has all the dance music before it turned really shit. Google it, you'll be satisfied.

You need some Madness and Specials. You know, the ska that non-ska people know. What's the Lonely Island hour?

    what a loser!

and i like your extra sensible advice Midlandsdan hehe

i would add some pop punk classics to the mix. theres a lot of old bands i no longer listen to but when they're played spontaneously on outings (in the car/ at club etc) they suddenly seem so good again! why is this? i get bored listening to them at home! heh

anyways theres my idea to add to the pot Smile

I have a playlist called 2 1/2 hour drive anti sleep remedy. I made it to listen to in the car on my way home to my Mum and Dads which was 2 1/2 hours drive away (funnily enough). Unfortunately, the CD isn't that long but here it is:

Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
    Terrorvision - Tequila
    The Network - Joe Robot
    Tsunami Bomb - Russian Roulette
    Goldfinger - 99 Red Balloons
    The Offspring - Original Prankster
The Vandals - My Girlfriend's Dead
Reel Big Fish - She Has a Girlfriend Now
    Green Day - Chump
    Anthrax - Cowboy Song
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Manic Street Preachers - You Stole the Sun From My Heart
    Ash - Burn Baby Burn
    The Monkees - I'm A Believer
    DJ Sammy - Heaven
    U2 - Beautiful Day
Bryan Adams - Summer of '69
The Zombies - She's Not There

Please don't judge me on some of this music, it makes a great compilation CD.

Yeah, listening to the Aggrolites is always the best course of action in any potential scenario.

drop a track from a spoken book onto the mix cd and see if any one coments on it, also instead of proper tracks, rip the audio from people coveing them on youtube and make a cd of them.

refuse to admit their not the origonal

been looking for a good dance mix for a while - cheers for that Lee
Pop-Punk was also an idea (make it like American Pie!) but it got superseded when I got all excited about the probability of 3 hours of DragonForce...
Aggrolites'll go on there, maybe with a bit of Black Seeds thrown in as well (Fire is an awesome song)
whenever I make a mix CD though I fill up a CD then realise I've only got to B in my muzak library. Then I do some weeding, and I still only get to E!
