Making Ska Mutiny regional...

So, it's something that i brought up within the ideas and suggestions topic, but i think it's ambitious enough to have it's own thread.

Obviously at this moment in time, creating regional sections wouldn't be a great idea. We have 14 registered members (granted, we're quite well spread out...) and these sections obviously aren't going to be used so much right now. I'm going to try some more (irritating) forms of advertisement, mainly through a myspace page/facebook page. Targetting bands and promoters with the myspace, and people with the facebook.

So i guess what i'm asking is, if people begin miraculously flocking to the forum and it's decided that regional sections would be a good idea, how should we go about it? By specific cities, by counties, by general areas (ie west, north west, south west, etc.)

We could also have things like local promoters and band forums within the areas.

Completely theoretical at the moment, but would like to hear peoples thoughts on it

Yeah, i know what you mean. I'm just throwing a load of ideas around at the moment and hoping something sticks, haha.

I think as we are now it's definitely not going to work, but if the membership of the forum grows it could be good to see if something like this could be put into place. I'm mainly thinking about it for promoters, to basically make sure their gigs aren't being lost amidst the gigs/tours forums. But that's obviously not an issue right now!

I agree with peeky, there would be a divide, i would feel unwelcome posting in the north and cornwall/devon would be so empty! plus we might end up missing brilliant stuff if we just checked our own regions all the time. but if you had to do it i'd split it up as simply as possible, north/west/south/east but give seperate places for london, wales and scotland?

i'm going to say no for now, but that we should ask this question again when/if we have a large enough amount of people to necessitate it.

there's no point spreading people around like that for the moment, let's cross that bridge when we come to it

I could have a devon/cornwall section to myself! YAY.

But yeah, I deffinatley don't think its really owrth it for the moment, and as the quote above says, would you feel a bit wierd posting in another regions forum, then they'd just be like shut up you aint local...

How would you make it work though, if the forum was full of people? This is an interesting debate.

well not divide it up too much, South West, South East, North West, North East maybe? Or maybe, Wales, N England, S England, Scotland, etc?

Only like 3 or 4 regions anyway, not every city. (Unless this gets -Really- big)

I don't think he means the whole forum. Just a sub-forum for each region.

i agree, plus with the old forum there was quite a bit of travelling around as well, people coming up for good gigs and stuff, plus it'll mean more effort for people advertising tours

i don't see the point! the uk is small enough as it is.
